The Rats move in (1954 - now) Since 1954 the Crag Rats operate the Hut under a special use permit from the Forest Service. Is is used as their base on the north side of Mount Hood for the snow survey program and mountain rescue missions. The Crag Rats most recently renewed their Special Use Permit in 2003.
